What is peeling?

Peeling’s role is to exfoliate dead epidermal cells from the surface of the skin. By cleaning, it unclogs pores, prevents the formation of blackheads and pimples, and prepares the skin for the next stages of skincare. It is one of the cosmetic and dermatological treatments that you can do at home. The cell death cycle is a completely natural process. Cells move to the surface of the epidermis, creating a protective layer against external factors and preventing moisture loss. Over time, in the place of old, dead cells, new ones form, but with age, this process gets longer and the complexion becomes grey, cracked, dry and rough. Therefore, it is worth stimulating the skin and speeding up this process, because calloused skin can cause an unesthetic appearance of the face skin. So we advise to use face peeling for smooth skin.

Face peeling for smooth skin. Disadvantages of using peeling:
  • Carrying out the treatment too often may irritate the skin that has not yet had time to regenerate. As a rule, we recommend such care no more than 1-2 times a week. However, depending on the type of the skin, you can do it more frequently, for example, oily skin up to 3 times a week to remove sebum and unblock sebaceous glands. On the other hand, sensitive skin once a week or once in 2 weeks, in this case, the best products will be mild products that will soothe and protect the lipid layer, e.g. enzymatic peeling.
  • Incorrectly selected type of peeling or too strong composition may cause irritation. That is why it is important to choose the right product in terms of our needs and skin type and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, then there should not be any undesirable effects present.

How to perform a peeling?

You can easily perform this treatment at home, without visiting a specialist at a beauty salon. Before peeling , cleanse the skin of makeup and impurities. Now all you have to do is to damp your face with water and spread a little of the cosmetic, gently massaging it in circular movements, using your fingertips. It is important not to do this vigorously, without a lot of rubbing or pressure, so as not to stretch the skin, which can promote wrinkles. Remember to omit the area around the eyes and mouth, because the skin under the eyes is very thin and sensitive and does not need exfoliation. Depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations, you can leave peeling for 5-10 minutes for the active ingredients to penetrate the skin. After the indicated time, rinse the remnants thoroughly with lukewarm water. Finally, you can use a tonic and apply a cream. Face peeling for smooth skin.

Types of peelings:
  • mechanical peeling,
  • enzymatic peeling,
  • chemical peeling.

Mechanical peeling. Face scrub

Mechanical peeling, also known as granular scrub or abrasive, is based on rubbing off dead skin with the use of a cream with sharp particles. Abrasive particles, the so-called scrub is most often ground fruit seeds, grains, nut shells, bran almonds, mineral salts, sea sand, ground coral, sugar, diatomaceous earth, kaolin clay or polyethylene granules (synthetic granules). Due to the massage and circular movements, the dead skin is removed. The fine-grained peeling is gentler and is intended for the skin of the face and neck. On the other hand, for the rest of the body, you can use a more intense type with larger grains, i.e. coarse-grained, which will cope better with rubbing off of the calloused skin.

Mechanical peeling is not recommended for delicate skin and acne so as not to irritate it even more.

Interesting components of mechanical peeling are:

  • Grape seeds – rich in polyphenols, they regenerate, improve skin firmness, and the oil supports the protective lipid layer of the epidermis.
  • Ground coffee – improves circulation and stimulates cells to produce collagen. Extremely aromatic, it stimulates the senses and relaxes.
  • Crushed Cupuaçu seeds – effectively exfoliate dead skin cells, additionally, Cupuaçu extract is rich in nourishing oils that strengthen the lipid barrier and improve elasticity.
  • Ground coral (Lithothamnium Calcea) – thoroughly exfoliates the epidermis and unclogs pores, while not causing irritation.
  • Collagen – supports the process of rebuilding the epidermis, protects the skin against moisture loss, improves its tension and smoothes wrinkles.
  • Allantoin – facilitates wound healing, nourishes and accelerates skin regeneration.

Enzymatic peeling is the most gentle option to get rid of dead skin cells. There are no sharp, abrasive particles in the composition, but but inside you can find natural enzymes for example of fruit origin or active chemical substances that naturally dissolve calloused skin. It is enough to spread the scrub over the face, neckline and neck, of course excluding the eyes and mouth area, and leave it for about 10 minutes. Then just rinse it with water and that is all.

Enzymatic peeling is good for all skin types. However, it is especially recommended for sensitive, couperose skin prone to irritation, allergies or discolouration.

Pay attention to the composition of the peeling, in addition to getting rid of dead epidermis cells, during the treatment the skin absorbs the valuable ingredients of the peeling. Examples of its components are:

  • Cranberry extract – an antioxidant that strengthens blood vessels and stimulates microcirculation, leaves a feeling of lifting, slows down the aging process.
  • Apple extract – contains flavonoids, phenols, vitamins A, B, C, K that have a positive effect on maintaining a youthful appearance.

In chemical peeling, chemicals substances are used for the treatment. As well as natural fruit acids, lactic or glycolic acid. Their action is similar to enzymatic peeling, but they are much stronger.

The following treatments are used:

  • Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) – e.g. glycolic, lactic, citric, tartaric, malic acids.
  • Beta-hydroxy acids (BHA) – salicylic acid.
