How to take care of your teeth to maintain the whitening effect?

In pursuit of the perfect smile, we reach for easily available teeth whitening preparations. The effects are visible quickly, but many of us forget about the proper care right after the treatment. If you skip this step, your teeth will quickly become discoloured. Natural and chemical methods of teeth whitening may lead to the formation of micro-holes in the enamel. Therefore, for the first 48 hours after such treatment, teeth are particularly sensitive. For this reason, it is crucial to take care of the teeth right after the end of the treatment. So it is worth introducing a white diet for a few days or even 2 weeks.

A white diet will help you maintain the whitening results

Its main assumptions are the consumption of products without colouring substances. And replacing them with neutral products, the effect of which is neutral on the colour of the teeth.

The neutral foods allowed in the white diet are:
  • Dairy – that is milk, cottage cheese, buttermilk, kefir, yoghurt, but without sweet fruit additives or spices.
  • Meat – chicken or turkey.
  • Eggs – but only the egg whites.
  • Cereals and seeds – white rice, oatmeal, bran, millet, couscous.
  • Seafood – shrimps, clams, white fish.
  • Vegetables – which are naturally light in colour or their flesh is tender and full of water. These are potatoes, cauliflower, parsley root, celery, white beans or white asparagus. Also cucumber and zucchini, but without the peel.
  • Fruit – bananas and coconuts are allowed.
  • Drinks – still water (but not flavoured – because it contains sugar), white wine, milk or coconut milk.

What to avoid after teeth whitening?
  • Coffee, tea, coloured drinks, juices, alcohol – they will quickly affect the teeth, making them yellow. So it’s better to give them up for a while. An interesting way to bypass this ban is to drink through a straw in such a way that the liquid does not come into contact with the enamel. Citruses – contain acids that negatively affect the condition of the enamel weakened by whitening.
  • Spices (especially turmeric) – which has a strong yellow stain.
  • Colourful vegetables and fruits – contain natural pigments, for example, a beetroot, which stain a lot.
  • Cigarettes – nicotine smoke will make your teeth change their colour quickly.
  • Sweets – due to the high content of sugar that settles on the teeth destroying them and causing discolouration.
  • Sauces – vinaigrette, soy, wine vinegar.
  • Cocoa
