Revolution in the 60-year history of Corvette

Thoughts about the completely new concept of the Corvette C8 Stingray have appeared in the media for a long time. Now, after the official presentation of the new Chevrolet Corvette, all speculation were cut to an end. Yes, the C8 will receive a non-turbocharged mid-engine and also the Stingray returns as the official name of the model. Definitely – it is the most powerful Corvette ever created! And also the first without a manual gearbox.

Dangerous toy with high power performance

The Corvette C8 Stingray will be powered by a 6.2-liter Small Block V8 engine with dry sump lubrication, two-valve technology, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation and a completely rebuilt aluminum block called the LT2. Contrary to previous speculation, the new engine remained a naturally aspirated engine. GM mentions in its announcements that there will also be other, possibly supercharged engines. The new power unit is located centrally behind the passengers. It develops 502 hp and a maximum torque of 637 Nm.

Speed thrusting into the chair

The C8 Stingray also got a newly developed eight-speed dual clutch transmission from the supplier Tremec. The first gear has a very short gear ratio. Gears 2 through 6 are drive gears and gears seven and eight are used as overdrive. There will be six driving programs (previously there were four). General Motors does not provide technical data yet. Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96,6 kph) is expected to take less than three seconds

Great precision of workmanship

Despite a completely different drive concept, the new model is clearly recognizable as a Corvette. GM says only a small part of the C7 predecessor has been taken over to the C8. The Corvette C8 Stingray is 15.19 ft long, 6.33 ft wide and 4.04 ft high. The wheelbase is 8.93 feet and the curb weight is 3,373.07 pounds. In the chassis, the C8 uses die-cast aluminum profiles. The rear bumper is made of carbon fiber, and the windshield is 0.01 ft fiberglass covering the engine. The new position of the engine changed the proportions of the car.

Similarly, the new Corvette has removable, one-piece roof that you can hide in the trunk behind the V8 engine. The luggage compartment alone has a capacity of 357 liters. Another small luggage compartment that can accommodate a small hand luggage in the front.

Corvette C8 Stingray – Equipment

The interior design is similar to the one we know from the previous generation Corvette C7. There is a 12-inch screen under the dashboard and a special Z button on the steering wheel. The latter allows you to adjust the settings of the chassis. The manufacturer also boasts a more efficient, faster and easier to use infotainment system with higher resolution. Unfortunately, no information was provided about the screen diagonal.

The materials used are of high quality. Some elements are made of carbon fiber and aluminum. The standard is a voice control system and a wireless smartphone charger. More demanding customers can pay extra for a 14-speaker audio system (instead of a 10-speaker audio system). The notable options are, among others: a heated steering wheel, a system of memorizing the position of the driver and passenger seats. There are three seat options and 6 interior color themes, including Jet Black Black, Sky Cool Gray, Adrenaline Red, Natural White and Natural Dipped, and Blue and Morello Red two-color. There are stripes in 6 different colors.

Corvette C8 – Z51 Performance

In addition to the more power offered by the Z51 Performance Package, Corvette C8 Stingray buyers will benefit from a sports suspension, a more efficient cooling system and an even more sinister-sounding exhaust system, along with the more grippy Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and 13.5-inch and 14-inch front discs. in the back.

A lot of attention was paid to aerodynamics during, hence the numerous creases and air intakes. Due to the low ground clearance, a system is standard that allows the front axle to be raised 1.57 inches in 2.8 seconds, also it can be used up to 25mph (40,2 kph). An interesting option is the ability to automatically activate the system based on GPS coordinates.

Corvette C8 – price

Moreover production of the new Corvette C8 Stingray will start in late 2019 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. GM has not yet announced the exact date of its launch. In the US, the new C8 will be available in a base version for less than $ 60,000.
